When you think of an autumn destination, what comes to mind? Is it leaf peeping at a scenic spot in New England? Is it pumpkin picking at an orchard in Upstate New York? Well, I can tell you that Warwick has just as much to offer as the most well-known autumn destinations.
If you are looking for the perfect fall day trip away from New York City, then Warwick is the place to go. It’s a short drive—only an hour from Manhattan! This Orange County spot has everything from quaint roads to the cutest small businesses (which have the nicest owners btw). When you are overwhelmed at home, it is a relief to get away for a while. What makes this town perfect for fall activities? Amazing wineries, inviting restaurants, huge pumpkin patches perfect for the family, colorful roads and so much more!
Let’s put it this way. It’s like stepping into a Hallmark movie, only YOU get to be the star. No one is rushing to catch trains, the streets aren’t as noisy and the locals are warm and welcoming. It’s a feel good environment perfect for couples, girls trip, families and even solo trips!

Besides your morning cup of coffee, there is nothing more important than a good breakfast. And what better way to start the day off than at a nice cafe? Begin your day with a nice sandwich and coffee from Cafe E Dolci right in the heart of Warwick. This charming cafe has it all whether you are craving something savory or sweet. Not in the mood for coffee and a sandwich? That’s okay! Their gourmet cuisine varies from delicious crepes to Acai bowls! They even have different selections of gelato and sorbet.

After eating a delicious breakfast, head on out and start exploring Warwick’s Main Street! Our first stop of the day was Frazzleberries Country Gift Shop. Can I just say I’ve never been to a more wonderfully decorated store? I couldn’t pass through without taking a peek inside and I’m happy I did. Those who visit this store can find anything from rustic home decor to handmade jewelry perfect for a loved one! I give this small family-owned business a 5/5 rating!

After all of that walking, I’m sure you’re hungry. With over 20 restaurants and bars to pick from, we took a risk and tried a local restaurant called Fetch Bar and Grill. Why’d we pick this one out of so many, you might ask? This restaurant has their walls covered with pictures of dogs. Like real life pictures of dogs… with occasional paintings that really give it that retro feel. My mom decided to try their Thanksgiving Egg Rolls (which is their famous specialty) and I went with a good old fashioned Philadelphia Cheese Steak. I would definitely give both food choices a 10/10! The workers were super friendly and our waitress actually recommended a fantastic drink choice. Wide selection of food choices, amazing cocktails. Overall, I would come back again!

Don’t want to leave after the wine tasting? Apple picking is another option for you! Relish in the beautiful scenery while picking your own apples from the orchard. Make your way through the engulfing trees while sipping on cider. Their apple season usually runs from Labor Day weekend until the first week of November (depending on weather and apple availability).
Tips before going:
- Bring cash because some bars do not take cards.
- Refrain from bringing outside food and drinks because it will be confiscated.
- Reservations are not allowed so try and get there early! It does get busy between September and October.
- No pets, sorry!

As you start winding down from a fantastic day at the winery, make sure to stop at Fizzy Lifting Soda Pop Candy Shop. It is like a blast from the past right in the middle of charming old Warwick. It offers a variety of old fashioned candies, sodas and gifts! It’s perfect for those with a sweet tooth! I’m thinking about the kiddos 😉 If you’re looking for a nice gift to bring back home, they also feature $20 T-shirts in all different sizes. Talk about cheap!

Unsure of what to eat for dinner? Pop into Grappa Ristorante! The restaurant has an Italian/ European ambiance that is a hit with many. My mom actually called it an “Italian delight!”. We are also very huge fans of Italian food and this spot did not disappoint. It has an impeccable wine list, outdoor seating and much more. Give it a whirl.
