Did you know that some of the best natural remedies to reduce bloat are right in your kitchen? Bloating can make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin and not know how to fix it. You try eating slower, chewing your food better, and reversing your eating patterns but it doesn’t seem to help. By the end of this article we’ll get you closer to figuring out what could be causing your bloat as well as learning some simple methods for reducing it naturally.
Peppermint Tea
Peppermint tea is a fantastic remedy for bloating. It can help to alleviate gas and stomach pain while being a natural diuretic, which will also help you eliminate excess water weight. It contains menthol which has a cooling effect on the stomach and relieves gas. Peppermint tea can even be used as an antispasmodic, helping to calm the digestive tract to reduce symptoms like cramping or bloating caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Peppermint tea can be made with fresh or dried peppermint leaves. The best time to drink it is about 30 minutes before a meal, as this will help to prevent gas after eating by relaxing your stomach muscles and speeding up digestion.
If you can’t find fresh peppermint leaves, the dried ones in tea bags will work just as well. This is my favorite one and it’s like a breath of fresh air for me.
When combined with other digestive aids like fennel and ginger, it’s even more effective at relieving the symptoms of bloating.
Ginger
Ginger is a powerful natural remedy for bloating. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory and can help reduce bloating by stimulating the digestive system, causing it to work more efficiently. Ginger also reduces gas production in the body by relaxing smooth muscle cells in your gastrointestinal tract, reducing spasms that lead to gas buildup. Ginger is also known to relieve nausea, so it can be helpful if you’re feeling queasy after eating too much or drinking too much alcohol.
Here are some ways to use ginger:
-Drink hot water with a teaspoon of grated ginger in it twice a day.
-Add powdered ginger to your smoothies or juices.
-Eat fresh ginger slices.
-Make ginger tea by simmering sliced ginger root in water.
Ginger tea is ideal if you’re looking for an effective way to get rid of bloat without having to take ginger capsules or supplements—simply steep a couple slices of fresh ginger root in boiling water until it’s warm enough to be palatable, then drink up! If you want something stronger than tea, try adding some honey or lemon juice as well—the taste won’t be quite as pleasant as drinking plain hot water with sliced ginger but will still do the trick!
Lemon Water
Lemons are a great natural way to reduce bloating because they contain citric acid and potassium—and both of these elements help reduce the amount of water in the body. The citric acid helps break down fat cells so they can be flushed out (which is why lemon juice is so good at getting rid of cellulite), and potassium helps regulate fluid balance in the body.
Lemon water is a great way to start the day, as it helps with overall health and wellness. To make this remedy, all you need is 1-2 lemons, a cup of hot water, and honey if desired. Simply cut up some fresh lemons (or use bottled juice) and add them to hot lukewarm water and let steep for at least 10 minutes before drinking it up!
The next time you’re feeling bloated, try drinking a glass of warm water with fresh lemon squeezed into it—or even better, make a pitcher-full of lemonade!
Garlic
Garlic is a natural anti-inflammatory that can help reduce bloating, gas, constipation and heartburn. It contains allicin which helps fight bacteria that cause inflammation in your digestive system.
The best way to consume garlic is raw or cooked with olive oil. Why? This helps break down the fat soluble compounds in garlic into smaller particles making them easier for your body to break down and absorb more effectively than if you ate raw garlic alone. You can also take garlic supplements if you prefer not eating it directly.
It has been used as a medicinal herb for centuries because of its many health benefits such as helping prevent atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries), high blood pressure (hypertension), heart disease and stroke as well as reducing cancer risk thanks to its antioxidant properties.
Fennel Seeds
You can also use fennel seeds to combat bloating. Fennel is a member of the carrot family and is used in many cuisines around the world. It has a mild licorice flavor, which makes it a great addition to salads, soups, and stews.
Fennel seeds are packed with nutrients like vitamin C and potassium. The seeds can be eaten raw or roasted in their shells to help with digestion issues.
Here’s how to use them in several different ways:
Take one or two teaspoons of crushed fennel seeds, and add them to a cup of hot water. Let it steep for five minutes. Strain out the seeds, and drink up!
You can also roast fennel seeds in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15-20 minutes until they are fragrant and golden brown. Roasted fennel seeds are also tasty!
Another way to eat raw fennel is by chopping it up into small pieces and munching away, or adding it to salads for extra crunchiness (but remember—don’t go overboard on the oil).
You can purchase pre-ground fennel seed at most grocery stores if you don’t want to take the time to grind them yourself.
More Liquids
To reduce bloating, you need to maintain more liquids in your body. This is because as the stomach fills up with air and water, it causes discomfort and pain in your abdomen.
The first thing that you should do is drink more water throughout the day. Drinking more water can help you flush out excess toxins in your body and reduce the swelling that causes bloating. Try drinking water before meals and throughout the day as well: it will keep things flowing smoothly! Ditch the carbonated drinks as much as you can, too. Fizzy drinks accumulate gas in your stomach. Trust me, your belly will thank you. However, I won’t judge you if you can’t pass up your third bottomless mimosa because let’s face it; we’ve all been there.
If you’re not the biggest water fan, tea such as green tea or chamomile tea is another option equally as good. Herbal teas have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties that can help with gas and bloating.
Juices are great too, especially ones with high fiber content like celery juice or carrot juice.
You might also want to try eating more fruit, especially watermelon or grapefruit. The fiber in these fruits help push everything through so it doesn’t get stuck (or bloat) in your digestive tract.
Broth and soup can also be beneficial in reducing bloating; they’re very easy on the digestive system since they don’t cause any irritation when they pass through it.
Fermented Foods
What is Fermentation?
Fermentation is the process of converting carbohydrates to alcohol or organic acids, and it’s used by many cultures around the world to preserve food. It can also be used to make some delicious foods that are packed with probiotics, which help your gut stay healthy. Probiotics are good bacteria that help break down foods and fight off bad bacteria in your gut.
Why Eat Fermented Foods?
Fermented foods have been shown to have many benefits for your health including:
-Helping you absorb nutrients from other foods better, which may help reduce bloating
-Lowering inflammation in your body and preventing disease (like heart disease)
-Helping treat digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or constipation
-Improving immune system function
Fermented foods are a great way to combat bloat because they contain probiotics, which help your body maintain its balance of good and bad bacteria. Probiotics are essential to digestion, so eating foods that contain them is an important way to keep your digestive system functioning properly and prevent constipation.
Examples of fermented foods include:
- Sauerkraut (cabbage)
- Kimchi (cabbage)
- Pickles
- Yogurt
For centuries, these foods have been used as a way to preserve food without refrigeration.
More Walks After Meals
You know that feeling when you’ve eaten a big meal or had a lot of sugar, and you feel like your stomach is about to pop? You’re not alone. Bloating is one of the most common health complaints women have. And while there are many different causes for bloating—and many different ways to treat it like I’ve talked about above—one simple way to reduce bloating is by walking after meals.
Here’s why you should try this the next time you eat a big meal:
-Helps move food through your digestive system, so that you don’t feel bloated and constipated.
-Aids in increasing your metabolism and burn off excess calories.
-Reduces stress, which can cause you to retain water in your body and make you feel bloated.
The key is to walk gently as you digest; If we sit still too long after eating, these enzymes start to work on themselves instead of on our food—and that can lead to discomfort in the form of bloating. But when we get up and move around after a meal, our bodies have time to digest properly and avoid those uncomfortable feelings!
If you’re not ready to move around yet, just sit in a quiet place and focus on your breathing until your body is ready. We know it’s tempting to sit on the couch after dinner and watch reruns of Friends, but trust me—it’s worth it!
Conclusion
Natural remedies are the perfect answer for people who don’t want to take pills or have surgery to get rid of stomach bloat. Furthermore, they are highly effective when used in combination with healthy eating and proper exercise.
