Achieving flawless skin has been an essential goal for women these last couple of years. However, instead of speeding up the “pimple-free” skin process, they are making it worse by making these skincare mistakes! Nowadays, many brands choose to advertise products that promote “clear skin.” This is very misleading (they fail to mention all the harmful ingredients causing more harm than good!). Lucky for you, I have listed out the most common skincare mistakes people make so you can get that glowing skin sooner than later π
Using Makeup Wipes
If you think makeup wipes clean your face thoroughly, you might want to think again. These wipes just move the makeup all over your face AND leave all that disgusting residue behind. What happens when cosmetics are left behind? Clogged pores, more breakouts, and even allergic reactions. I know some of us would much rather have the easy way out with a wipe, but wash your face with a mild cleanser instead. You’ll have smoother and more bright skin in the long run.
Leaving Your Makeup On Overnight
When you sleep with makeup overnight, that gunk is clogging your pores every second that passes by. Think about it. That fabulous makeup applied in the morning is now combined with oil and the random bacteria you’ve encountered throughout the day. Ding ding! Here comes the inflammation and pimples. I get it. After a long day, I know I just want to go to bed. Instead opt for a hydrating Micellar water such as this one. Many people struggle with sensitive skin. This water was designed to be less irritating than the traditional makeup remover. What does this result in? No oily residue. No more dirt left behind. Brighter face that glows. Takes up way less time so you can get back to watching your favorite show. Soak a cotton pad before bed and apply moisturizer. It’s that easy.
Exfoliating Too Much
Do you wake up with patches of dry skin? Have others told you that a gentle scrub will do the trick? That same gentle scrub with the small plastic micro beads? We’ve all been there, trust me. Exfoliating is a great thing. A magical thing. However, over-exfoliating strips the skin of its natural oils, which causes MORE breakouts and irritation. The top of your skin is a protective barrier, and if damaged, sun exposure will be more prevalent. There are other harmful things, too, that cause premature aging. No more than three times a week, depending on your skin.
- For dry skin, I recommend 2x a week. Start off with one just to be sure.
- For sensitive skin, once a week is more than fine.
Another tip: Always be gentle with your skin. There is no need for harsh chemicals or hard scrubbing. Check the ingredients.
Overloading On Products
You don’t need to use six different products on your face every day. Yes, it is crucial to have a steady skincare routine (just not overdoing it!). When too many products are applied on the face, potency is not as effective. So what’s a good night time skincare routine? Facial cleanser , Serum , Moisturizer. That’s it! And also, make sure to wait 2-3 minutes per step to endure product absorption.
Not Cleaning Your Cell Phone
Many people don’t think about their phones being one of the reasons for the spontaneous breakouts, and inflammation (but it is!) Let’s think about it, shall we? Remember the last time you took your phone to the bathroom? Or left it somewhere in a public place? Think about all the germs that were in contact with your phone that whole time. Yuck, right? We are constantly carrying it around so much that we forget how important it is to clean it. And what is worse, our hands (that were in contact with the dirty phone) are continually touching our faces. Do you see where I’m going with this?
Guessing Your Skin Type
KNOWING YOUR SKIN TYPE IS SO IMPORTANT. Many people assume they have acne-prone skin because of the OCCASIONAL pimples that appear on their face (btw totally false!). Those same people will then proceed to buy harsh facial cleansers and scrubs, which, instead of nourishing and healing your skin, will irritate and dry it out. Different skin types have different needs. This is why specific products were created to combat those issues. If their ingredients aren’t the right ones for your skin, they won’t yield the results you need. When you find out more information about your skin, it’ll be easier to choose products that suit you best. Go to your local beauty store for more information.
While living in this generation, skincare has become a worldwide trend. What better way to make sure you’re on the right path to clear skin than figuring out some common skincare mistakes to avoid? Even if you think you’re on the right track, make sure to read the entire article JUST TO BE SURE.
